The Heckler & Koch Competition Model was created for both recreational shooters and the most demanding competitors using the HK MR556A1 as the foundation and with feedback from numerous competitive shooters. The Competition Model improves the ordinary MR rifle with the most important fundamental changes, making it perfect for 3-gun contests.

The new 14′′ Modular Rail System (MRS), which is lightweight and simple to customize, is the most notable of these additions. It enables the shooter to install auxiliary rail pieces where requested while minimizing weight and providing a more ergonomic and comfortable handguard surface. Competitive shooters prefer the fully free-floating, extended length 14′′ MRS, which is available in all MR rifles. For speedy magazine changes, an extended magazine release is also provided.
